The short list

  • A full UK or EU driving licence held for at least a year.
  • Photo ID — your licence card, or a passport alongside it.
  • Proof of address from the last three months: a bank statement, utility bill or council letter.
  • A DVLA licence check code, so we can see your points and categories. It takes two minutes at gov.uk — search “share driving licence”.

Business customers add their company details and the drivers who will use the van; each named driver uploads the same documents.

Uploading from your phone

Everything is uploaded in your dashboard, and photos taken on a phone are fine as long as all four corners are visible and the text is readable. Blurry or cropped documents are the single biggest cause of delay, so take ten extra seconds over them.

What we check and how long it takes

We confirm the licence is valid, check the DVLA record and make sure the documents match the account name. Most applications are decided within one working day; your dashboard shows a readiness checklist so you always know exactly what is outstanding.

If you want fleet insurance

Premium plans include hire-and-reward fleet insurance, which has its own eligibility rules: typically aged 23 or over, licence held two years or more, no more than six penalty points and no serious convictions. We run that check during booking and tell you straight away if a referral is needed. On other plans you arrange your own hire-and-reward policy and upload the certificate before collection — see the insurance guide for the details.

Common trip-ups

  • A check code that has expired — codes last 21 days, so generate it close to booking.
  • Proof of address older than three months, or in someone else’s name.
  • A licence address that does not match where you live now. That is fine — the proof of address covers it — but tell us so the mismatch does not look like an error.
